Camp Life
What happens during the day?
After choosing activities campers and staff return to their cabins and tents for clean up and inspection. Everyone gets her area cleaned up and then heads to flag raising and on to activities.
After Activity Period there is time for a swim, or free time, before lunch. Free time can include playing tetherball, practicing a skit for our weekly show, playing tennis, taking a shower, spend-ing time at the picnic tables in the center of a Longhouse, and playing with friends.
Lunch is at 12:30 which is followed by rest hour and then the afternoon circles for choosing ac-tivities. After the afternoon activity period there is snack and another period of free time. There are several special activities offered in the afternoon free time: Boats Out, when girls can practice their paddling or sailing skills; Open Studio, for working on arts and crafts projects; and our popular Running Club, when girls can run a half mile circuit around campus.
After supper we do a variety of evening activities. By far the favorite is our weekly show called the Saturday Spectacular. Each week we also have an all-camp campfire. Some nights we might have "Cabin Night" with activities done as a small group, other nights might be a time when a Longhouse (a grouping of four cabins or the tents) plays a game or has its own campfire. We sometimes play an outdoor game with everyone at camp - the favorite game is a version of flash-light tag we call "Navy Seals."
Where and what do we eat?
The whole camp gathers for meals in our dining hall where we eat healthy, wholesome meals family style. We always have a vegetarian option for those who choose not to eat meat, there is a large and varied salad bar each night at supper and you can choose fresh fruit from the salad bar each day at breakfast.
Twice a week we have cookouts beside the lake!
Tent and Cabin Life
While at camp you live in a cabin with other girls close to your age and two or three staff. Our oldest campers live in tents. Girls at Songa come from all over the country and some come from other countries, too. At Songadeewin, each girl is valued for who she is rather than for the back-ground from which she comes.

One thing you'll learn while spending a summer at camp is that whether people come from close to home or far away, we all have a lot in common. Our staff are also from around the USA and other parts of the world. Songadeewin has a well-rounded staff with a mix of older and younger counselors. Most of our staff are in college, some recently graduated and some are teachers. Each year former campers return to the staff to share their love of Songa, the outdoors, and to have fun with our newest campers. That might be you!
